🌵 Medicine Man x Althea 🌵
Overview
A cross between Trichocereus bridgesii ‘Medicine Man’ and Trichocereus peruvianus ‘Althea’ (Ikaros DNA), bringing together strong growth, structural form, and classic Trichocereus traits.
This hybrid blends bridgesii influence with Peruvianus-type characteristics, producing columnar plants with defined ribs, moderate spination, and a green to slightly glaucous finish.
Each plant shows natural variation due to its seed-grown origin.
Genetics & Parentage
Trichocereus bridgesii ‘Medicine Man’
A named bridgesii-type clone, believed to be associated with traditional South American cultivation. Valued for its character, resilience, and classic bridgesii traits.

Trichocereus peruvianus ‘Althea’ (Ikaros DNA)
A well-known seed-grown clone from Ikaros DNA stock, recognised for vigour, clean structure, and Peruvianus-type growth.
This cross combines bridgesii character and adaptability with Peruvian structure and genetic diversity.
Lineage within Trichocereus can vary between growers, but both parents are established in cultivation and selected for desirable traits.

What to Expect
- Growth rate: Moderate to fast
- Mature form: Tall, columnar, well-structured
- Colour: Green to slightly blue-green
- Spines: Moderate, variable (may lean longer from bridgesii influence)
- Difficulty: Easy
Grower Notes
Performs well in UK greenhouse conditions and responds strongly to heat and feeding.
Expect good vigour from the Ikaros lineage, with some variation in spine length and form influenced by the bridgesii parent.
Why This One Stands Out
- Bridgesii × Peruvianus hybrid (Althea is one of the more famous clones about)
- Good balance of structure and character with some interesting spine formations
- Reliable growth with some variation

Byron’s planting pots are far better (and far cheaper!) than anything else on the market, and his substrates are literally the best I’ve ever used.
Anyone would think this all comes at a premium? Nope lol. Overall value is just insane. That said, I would remain a customer even if these products WERE expensive. Quality is just that good.
Cactocerus is honestly Europe’s best trich supplier (and it’s not even close… )
