Overview

This is a characterful Lophophora williamsii var. jourdaniana specimen, showing a mature central head surrounded by a strong cluster of offsets. The plant has that soft, rounded Lophophora form collectors look for, with muted blue-green skin, broad low ribs, and a naturally compact clumping habit.

The older central head has plenty of age and texture, with woolly areoles and dried floral remains around the crown. Around it, the younger heads are cleaner and smoother, giving the plant a nice contrast between old growth and fresh offset development.

The bright pink bud is a strong visual feature here, and jourdaniana forms are especially appreciated for their flower colour and collector appeal. This is not a generic small seedling, it is a developed specimen with structure, age, and presence.

What Makes This One Special

This plant has the kind of form that comes with time. The central head has settled into a mature, weathered character, while the surrounding offsets are plump, clean, and actively developing. That balance makes it a much more interesting specimen than a uniform young plant.

The flower bud is also worth noting. Lophophora jourdaniana is often grown for its stronger pink to magenta flower expression, and this plant is already showing that clearly. Colour can vary depending on light, season, and growing conditions, but this one is already giving a good display.

Grower Notes

Grow hard and dry in a mineral-heavy cactus mix with excellent drainage. This plant is well suited to a bright UK greenhouse, provided it is kept dry during cold periods and not pushed with excessive watering.

Give it strong filtered light, good airflow, and careful watering during active growth. Let the pot dry fully between waterings. In winter, keep cool, bright, and dry.

The older crown has natural corking and dried floral material, which is normal on mature Lophophora. Avoid overhead watering into the crown, especially in cooler conditions.

Collector Appeal

This is a good choice for collectors who want a mature Lophophora with visible age, offset development, and flowering potential. The clumping habit gives it presence in the pot, while the flower bud adds a proper bit of colour without needing any sales fluff.

Important Notes

Lophophora colour and body shape can shift through the year depending on light, watering, temperature, and growth cycle. Some seasonal shrinking or colour change is normal, especially during cooler or drier periods.

This listing is for horticultural and collector cultivation only.
