Overview

Variegated Trichocereus terscheckii is an unusual collector offering with a bold combination of ribbed structure, yellow-green colouring and strong spination. In the photographed cutting, paler bands follow the length of the stem while clusters of golden spines stand out from the areoles.

Cut Details

Choose the Number option for the exact cutting, its length and photographs. The cut is dried and ready to ship, and rooting hormone powder has been applied. It is supplied as a cutting to establish, rather than as a rooted whole plant.

Rooting: Take Your Time

Terscheckii can be slow to root. Set the callused end into a dry, well-drained medium and provide warmth, airflow and bright indirect light while it establishes. Support the cutting if needed so movement does not disturb the base.

A slow start is not a reason to keep adding water. Introduce watering cautiously as roots develop, and avoid repeatedly pulling the cutting out to check it. No fixed rooting time is promised.

Light & Variegation

This material has been grown in full sun, but it still needs protection from heatwaves. Give shade during intense heat and acclimatise it to any change in position. Pale areas deserve particular attention because they may scorch before the greener tissue does.

The photographs show the current pattern. New growth may carry a different balance of green and yellow, so a perfectly repeated stripe should not be expected.
