A blue, old-line Sacred Succulents clone with strong peruvianus/macrogonus character, offered here as the exact cutting shown.
Overview
Trichocereus ‘SS01’ is one of the older Sacred Succulents releases, widely grown under the name Trichocereus peruvianus SS01. It is a chunky, blue-green columnar clone with pronounced ribs, pale areoles, and firm brown to amber spination.
Taxonomy around this plant is a bit messy, as is often the case with older Trichocereus material. Trichocereus.net notes that SS01 is usually treated as Trichocereus peruvianus or Trichocereus macrogonus outside the Sacred Succulents nursery, with the original source uncertain. Sacred Succulents themselves described it as possibly belonging to either Trichocereus macrogonus or Trichocereus peruvianus.
The cutting for sale here shows the classic SS01 look well, broad ribs, a glaucous blue surface, good girth, and tidy mature spination. The final image shows an older SS01 for reference, giving a fair idea of how this clone can develop with age.
A grown out version of the clone:

Genetics & Background
Trichocereus peruvianus ‘SS01’
An older Sacred Succulents clone known for fat blue-green stems, strong columnar growth, and long spination. It has also been used in a large number of Sacred Succulents hybrids, which is part of why the clone carries collector value beyond just its appearance.
Peruvianus/macrogonus-type background
This plant sits in that classic blue Trichocereus space where grower labels often vary. The safest wording is peruvianus/macrogonus-type rather than pretending the taxonomy is cleaner than it is.
What to Expect
- Growth rate: Fast once rooted and established, especially in a warm greenhouse
- Mature form: Thick columnar growth, with the potential to become a large, heavy plant over time
- Colour: Blue-green to glaucous blue, strongest in bright light with good airflow
- Spines: Amber to brown spines, becoming more pronounced with maturity
- Difficulty: Straightforward for experienced Trichocereus growers, but give it a proper dry rooting period
Grower Notes
Allow the cut end to stay fully dry while rooting (Already done for you). Pot into a sharp, mineral-heavy cactus substrate and hold back from heavy watering until new root growth is underway. Once established, SS01 should do well in a UK greenhouse with strong light, airflow, and sensible winter dryness.
This is a chunky blue clone, so avoid overly rich, wet compost. It will reward a firmer, cleaner growing regime with better colour and tighter growth.
Why This One Stands Out
- OG Sacred Succulents clone
- Strong blue peruvianus/macrogonus-type appearance
- Good rib definition and proper spination
- Useful collector clone and breeding-line reference plant
- Exact cutting shown, not a representative stock image
Important Notes
Colour can shift with season, light intensity, feeding, and whether the plant is actively growing. Blue clones can look greener under lower light or softer conditions, which is normal.
