Trichocereus pachanoi x Trichocereus bridgesii – Twin-Headed Specimen

A characterful Trichocereus pachanoi x Trichocereus bridgesii specimen, grown on from a cut column and now pushing two strong, clean heads with excellent blue-green colour and bridgesii-influenced spination.

  • 55cm From Base
  • See pictures for condition and pup sizes
  • Sent bare root excluding substrate and pot

Overview

This is a one-off Trichocereus pachanoi x Trichocereus bridgesii specimen with a lot of visual presence. The plant has been previously cut and has responded by producing two strong upper heads, giving it a balanced, forked form rather than a simple single column.

The new growth is particularly attractive, with smooth rounded ribs, a soft blue-green surface, and warm amber to honey-coloured spines. The overall look sits nicely between pachanoi-type thickness and bridgesii-type attitude, with the bridgesii influence showing through in the longer, more expressive spination.

This is not a tiny seedling or a fresh cutting, it is an established collector cactus with structure, age, and a bit of history already in the plant.

Genetics & Parentage

Trichocereus pachanoi
A fast-growing columnar cactus known for strong growth, thicker stems, smoother rib structure, and good resilience in cultivation. Pachanoi-type plants often bring vigour and a cleaner, more rounded column form.

Trichocereus bridgesii
A more sharply characterised Trichocereus, often recognised for stronger spination, narrower ribs, and a more rugged growth style. Bridgesii influence can add a lot of character to a cross, especially in spine colour, rib shape, and mature presence.

Together, this cross brings the strength and size potential of Trichocereus pachanoi with the sharper, more collector-friendly edge of Trichocereus bridgesii.

Details

  • You will receive the exact plant shown in the photos, this is a one-off specimen
  • Size: approximately 55cm from soil line to the top of the tallest head
  • Form: established column with twin upper heads
  • Growth: active, healthy new growth visible at the tips
  • Colour: blue-green to glaucous green, with brighter fresh growth at the apex
  • Spines: amber, honey and pale straw tones, with stronger bridgesii-type expression on the newer heads

What to Expect

  • Growth rate: Fast in warm conditions once settled
  • Mature form: Tall columnar growth, currently forming a twin-headed structure
  • Colour: Blue-green with lighter fresh growth at the tips
  • Spines: Medium to long amber spines, likely to strengthen further with high light
  • Difficulty: Easy to moderate, best treated as a strong-growing Trichocereus rather than a delicate collector plant

Grower Notes

Grow in a very free-draining cactus substrate with strong light and good airflow. This plant will suit a UK greenhouse well, especially from spring through autumn, where it should push strong seasonal growth if watered and fed sensibly.

Because it is already a taller, heavier specimen with two upper heads, give it a stable pot and avoid keeping it wet during cold weather. Let the substrate dry properly between watering, especially outside peak growing season.

The old cut point is part of the plant’s growth history, not a flaw. It is the reason this specimen now has its twin-headed form.

Why This One Stands Out

  • Exact one-off specimen, not a generic seedling listing
  • Strong twin-headed structure from a mature cut column
  • Good blue-green colour and clean rib formation
  • Attractive amber bridgesii-influenced spination
  • Established size, around 50 cm from soil line
  • A proper collector cactus with character already built in

Important Notes

The plant shown is the exact plant for sale. Minor marks, old cut tissue, and natural cosmetic blemishes are normal on established Trichocereus specimens of this size.

Growth form will continue to develop over time. With strong light, the heads should continue to thicken and the spination may become more pronounced.

Steps For Rooting

Once the cut is received, place it around 1/2 inch to 1 inch in a pot of substrate. I use wooden kebab skewers to hold up the piece. Water lightly and you should start getting new root growth within a few weeks to a few months depending on conditions.

An alternative way would be to stick them in perlite and wait for them to root, once roots form you can re-pot.

All plants sold are strictly for garden / ornamental purposes, not for human consumption. We are here to cultivate these beautiful plants and spread them as far as we can, nothing outside of growing (all things related to growing) will be tollerated.
