Overview

‘NoThink’ is a lesser-known clone with an old-school South American look. These cuts show a blue-green to lightly glaucous body, strong rounded ribs, tidy areoles and short golden-brown spines. The combination gives the plant plenty of character without the heavy spination seen on many other Trichocereus.

The clone remained uncommon for many years and is now seen more regularly in specialist collections and breeding work. It has been compared with Ecuadorian Echinopsis pachanoi and with Trichocereus puquiensis, a high-ribbed plant closely allied to pachanoi. Its exact botanical placement is not settled, so it is best treated as a distinct named clone rather than forcing a more specific label onto it.

What Makes This Clone Special

NoThink has a clean, sculptural shape that sits somewhere between the classic pachanoi look and the higher-ribbed South Peruvian forms. The ribs are full and clearly defined, while the restrained spines keep the body visible from every angle.

Both cuts have a particularly attractive blue-green colour and mature-looking rib structure. They are substantial pieces for rooting and give a collector a good head start with a clone that is still far less common than the usual pachanoi standards.

Grower Notes

These cuttings are already dry and callused. Root them upright in a very free-draining Trichocereus mix, keep them warm with good airflow, and avoid heavy watering until roots have begun to form. Bright light will help maintain compact growth, but introduce stronger sun gradually to prevent scorching.

In the UK, keep the cuttings frost-free and on the dry side through winter. Rooting speed varies with warmth and season, so patience is normal, especially outside the main growing period.
