Overview

This cut shows a strong blue-green, glaucous surface with broad rounded ribs, deep channels and widely spaced areoles carrying very short spines. The form is full and orderly, with a compact, symmetrical growing point.

Naming and History

This clone is more commonly circulated as Oz Juuls, but the supplied 2023 account from James Dugan records the correct garden label as Bodhi 1. In that account, the plant was growing in Bodhi’s garden in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales. Keeper Trout reportedly remarked that it looked like Tom Juul’s Giant, and the nickname Oz Juuls followed.

The comparison explains the nickname; it does not establish that this is Tom Juul’s Giant or that the two share provenance. This listing therefore keeps both recognised names while clearly separating the Australian clone from the original American TJG clone.

Grower Notes

Allow the cut end to be fully dry before rooting in a free-draining cactus mix. Keep it warm, bright and dry while roots form, then introduce water gradually once established. Strong light and good airflow help maintain compact growth, although the depth of the blue surface bloom will vary with conditions.
