Ogun x Arequipa – Trichocereus pachanoi – Seedlings

Overview

Ogun x Arequipa is a Trichocereus pachanoi seedling cross with a particularly attractive contrast in the photographed plant: a yellow stripe follows the upright green ribs, while the tip shows yellow-green sectors around the fresh central growth.

Genetics & Parentage

Ogun / Ogunbodede is a widely collected pachanoi clone. Its name is associated with researcher Olabode Ogunbodede and the botanical research that helped bring the plant to collectors’ attention. Here it is part of a cross, not a promise that the seedling will reproduce the parent clone exactly.

Arequipa is recorded in our collection notes as a stable variegated pachanoi line circulated from Spain. That describes the parent used in this cross; it does not establish the original wild locality or guarantee a fixed colour pattern in every offspring.

Variegation & Growth

The yellow and green pattern visible in the photographs is the current expression of this individual seedling. Colour distribution can change as new growth develops, and seed-grown siblings need not share the same pattern.

Grower Notes

Provide bright light, good airflow and a free-draining cactus substrate. Introduce stronger sunlight gradually and allow the growing medium to dry appropriately between waterings. Reduce watering during cool, inactive periods and protect from frost and prolonged winter damp.

Protect pale sections from harsh midday sun and heatwaves. Variegated tissue can be more vulnerable to scorching, even when the green portions look comfortable.
