‘Helon’ Clone – Trichocereus cordobensis – Cuts

Overview

‘Helon’ is a collector clone circulated as Trichocereus cordobensis. The photographed cutting shows broad, smooth ribs, deep grooves and pale, well-spaced areoles, with short amber-toned spines against a blue-green surface. Its tip remains neatly organised, with rounded rib ends surrounding fresh green central growth.

Clone Background

Specialist grower Freaky Cacti describes Helon as an established Australian clone with substantial stems and occasional irregular growth. Cordobensis is retained here as its familiar horticultural identity, rather than a claim that its botanical placement or ancestry is settled.

Monstrose Potential

Helon can sometimes produce melty, lumpy or semi-monstrose sections. That expression is intermittent: a cutting may continue with ordinary columnar growth, and no mutation is guaranteed. Choose it for the plant shown and its clonal identity, with any future changes an additional interest.

Grower Notes

Provide bright light, good airflow and a free-draining cactus substrate. Introduce stronger sunlight gradually and allow the growing medium to dry appropriately between waterings. Reduce watering during cool, inactive periods and protect from frost and prolonged winter damp.

Check that the cut surface is fully dry and callused before setting it into a dry, free-draining rooting medium. Keep warm with bright indirect light, and introduce watering cautiously as roots establish. Avoid repeatedly lifting the cutting to check progress.
