Origin and Habitat

Trichocereus Bridgesii, also known as Echinopsis Lageniforms hails mainly out of the Bolivian mountains but grows pretty much throughout Bolivia (Tarija, Santa Cruz, Chochabamba, LA PAZ, & Chuquisaca).

Trichocereus bridgesii has been renamed to Echinopsis lageniformis by Friedrich and Rowley during their 1974 merger of the genus Echinopsis. The name Echinopsis bridgesii was already taken by a clumping Echinopsis species from Bolivia, which is a totally different plant and should not be confused with Trichocereus bridgesii.

UK Growing

In the UK, Bridgesii’s are quite popular due to their hardiness and can handle our low temp during winter (around 5C before bringing inside, although, adults can go lower). Flowers produce after around 10 years of growth, so, patience is required. Bridgesii differ in terms of humidity requirements, they do not tolerate high humidity very well and can form rot if left in high humidity for long periods.

All our cacti are shipped bare root to protect the cacti, please ensure you have suitable substrate and a pot for your new dude.

Synonyms

Bolivian Torch cactus seedlings and current Bridgesii stock

This Bolivian Torch page covers Trichocereus bridgesii, also listed as Echinopsis lageniformis. It is kept as the main seedling/restock page, while larger plants, cuts, TBM clones and older one-off listings sit elsewhere in the Bridgesii range when available.

Seedlings, seeds or cuts?

  • Seedlings: best when available if you want a rooted young Bolivian Torch plant that is already past the earliest germination stage.
  • Seeds: best if you want to raise a batch from the start. See Trichocereus bridgesii seeds.
  • Cuts and clones: availability changes by batch, size and clone. Browse the Tr. bridgesii category or check Bolivian Torch cuts when listed.

What to expect from this listing

  • Botanical names: Trichocereus bridgesii / Echinopsis lageniformis.
  • Common name: Bolivian Torch cactus.
  • Current format: rooted seedlings when in stock, with size and batch details shown above.
  • Dispatch: sent bare root to reduce transit damage and keep the plant safer in the post.
  • Availability: stock is batch based, so use the Bridgesii category for current alternatives if this page is temporarily out of stock.

Comparing Bridgesii with other Trichocereus

Trichocereus bridgesii is usually a slimmer, more blue-green columnar cactus than many San Pedro seedlings, with spination and growth varying by seed batch or clone. If you are comparing options, see San Pedro cactus seedlings, Peruvian Torch seedlings and the wider Trichocereus category.
